After a long day of painful contractions, the time had come. Dilation and baby position had stalled and though it was not the way we intended to deliver this baby, we decided on the other option: the c-section.
After suiting up in my scrubs, they wheeled Colleen into the operating room. It was quite a sight as I made my way around to the other side of the blue curtain they had set up. Colleen's head poked out from behind the curtain. She had on a hair net and had oxygen tubes in her nose. She was alert, but looking nervous.
I tried my best to comfort her with one hand stroking her head and the other squeezing her hand. The doctor offered encouragement from the other side of the blue curtain: "You're doing fine", "It will be over soon".
Finally, one of the assistants told me to stand up and look over the curtain. I saw the doctor lift the baby, tie off the cord, then hand her off to a waiting nurse to go get cleaned off.
What an emotional moment as we heard the first of our baby's cries. They let me get up close to my baby and even snap a few pictures.
The baby and I were then whisked off to the recovery room where Colleen would follow after the doctors were done. It was there where Colleen first got to meet little Molly.
What a surreal experience! The journey begins...
I've added a collection of photos. The link is under the 'Friends' section on the right. You can also click here.
